Specific Instructions for Use of the LatCrit Thematic Index

(Last Updated September 2012)

Welcome to the Thematic Index of the LatCrit Scholarship Research Toolkit.  As you know, this Thematic Index is organized around 25 general themes, all of which are listed alphabetically in the Theme Chart accompanying this Index.  To facilitate your research, the Thematic Index has been assembled into four different documents (formatted as pdf), each of which is organized to allow different pathways of research.

The first version of the Thematic Index is organized alphabetically by theme or subject, as presented in the accompanying Theme Chart.  The second version of the Thematic Index is organized alphabetically by author name (using first names), thus allowing research by author rather than by theme or subject.  The third version of the Thematic Index is organized alphabetically by article/essay titles, thus allowing researchers to locate specific texts directly.  Finally, the fourth version of the Thematic Index is organized by date (in reverse chronological order) to enable an easy overview of chronologies or sequences.  Researchers are encouraged to use any and all of these alternatives to ensure comprehensive research results, and to cross-check results with the Keyword Index.

In addition to the four .pdf-format versions of the Thematic Index described above, an additional version in Excel also is included.  This fifth and final version in Excel format allows each researcher to manipulate the data in the Thematic Index, and to reorganize it in any way for specific or custom searches.  If your research project does not lend itself to searches by theme, author, title or date, as described above, please go directly to this fifth version of the Thematic Index and re-organize it using Excel functions in order to conduct your own unique search.

This Thematic Index is updated annually.  If you have any questions, feedback or concerns, please contact the Project Team Coordinators.  Many, many thanks especially for your feedback with suggestions to improve the utility of the LatCrit Scholarship Research Toolkit in any way.
